Tanning salon beds
Usually the arguments against tanning salon beds center
on your chances of getting melanoma. However, in Springfield, Missouri
a former tanning salon owner raised the stakes by installing cameras
so he could watch customers in the nude. He faces charges of invasion
of privacy and faces a prison term of 16 years.
Such a story will probably do little harm to the tanning salon beds
industry which grew by 1% last year. (The industry faced much greater
threats from increased pressure about the links between melanoma and
artificial tanning.) Still, the story does raise some concerns about
what you should look for when you go to a tanning salon.
On your first visit to a salon make sure you're comfortable with the
salon owner and its employees. Also, before you lay down your money
inspect the tanning salon beds. Do they look clean and well maintained?
While the dangers of one high profile case may not be easily reproduced,
it does give good cause to consider your criteria in choosing a salon.
